Woman stabs husband, 4 children to death

A 33-year-old woman, Isabel Martinez, has allegedly stabbed her husband and four of their children in their home

Officers of Gwinnett police station, in Atlanta, USA were called to a Loganville residence at about 11 a.m. on Thursday, when neighbours found the man and the children dead from apparent stab wounds.

Police said the woman was inside the home with the bodies of her husband, Martin Romero, 33, and the remains of the four children: Axel, 2, Dillan, 4, Dacota, 7, and Isabela, 10.

A sixth victim, 9-year-old Diana, was another of the couple’s children. She was airlifted to Children’s Health Care of Atlanta and was in serious condition

A Court order was obtained which directed that Martinez be held in police custody without bond after she was quickly charged with five counts of murder, six counts of aggravated assault and five counts of “malice murder.”

After taking the mother into custody, the Police said they were not searching for additional suspects.

A motive in the stabbings has not been established, but a neighbour, who spoke under anonymity, told reporters that the mother had been depressed in recent weeks following the death of her father.

Kelechi Iheanancho Set To Join Leicester City For £25M

Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho is close to making a £25m move to Leicester City.

Iheanacho, who has scored 21 goals in 64 games in all competitions since making his debut for Manchester City in 2015, is in advanced talks with the Foxes ahead of the 2017/18 Premier League campaign and is reportedly committed to making the switch to the former champions.

According to the Mirror, the Sky Blues are willing to let go of the 20-year-old Nigerian star on the condition that a buy-back clause is inserted in the deal.

If the move materializes, Iheanacho, who has been listed in City’s squad for their pre-season tour of the United States, will team up with Super Eagles teammates Ahmed Musa and Wilfred Ndidi at the King Power stadium.

Police Declare 20 Badoo Suspects Wanted, Arrest 87 Others In Ikorodu (Photos)

Lagos State Police Command in collaboration with other security agencies and security volunteers have arrested 87 suspected Badoo members just as it declared 20 others wanted in connection with activities of the group in Ikorodu.

The 87 suspects were arrested in an all-night operation on their hideouts in Owutu and Odongunyan in Ikorodu.

Those declared wanted for cult related killings include: Moshood (a.k.a Mosho), Alfa (a.k.a King of Boys), Papa; Fela, Alakoto and Chukwudi.

Others declared wanted for kidnapping in Ikorodu include: Agbara, O/C, Femi (a.k.a FM), Pencil, Ogidan, Jaru, Allen, Bush, Happiness, Fagbo, Junior, Nuru and Jamiu.

Representing the Lagos State Police Commissioner, CP Fatai Owoseni at raiding, Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Imohimi Edgal warned the suspects to come out of their hideouts and report themselves to the nearest police station.

The raid was an extensive operation on the two areas – Odongunyan and Owutu and it was necessitated by more intelligence on the membership of the dreaded cult group and their mode of operations.

We know Rob wants to raise the baby himself, and it doesn’t seem Chyna is putting up much of a fight on that front. Fact is … her other kid, King Cairo, is being raised primarily by Tyga.

It’s unlikely in the foreseeable future either one of them will go to court for money or custody. They both have significant issues, and we’re told they don’t want to risk an adverse ruling by a judge.

Female Student Of Nigerian University Develops Alternative Treatment For Breast Cancer

Sandra Musujusu, a female student of the African University of Science and Technology, Abuja, is reportedly developing an alternative treatment for breast cancer. It is believed this treatment might lead to a lasting solution in treating breast cancer.

This development was made known on Tuesday in Abuja when the World Bank Education Director, Dr Jaime Saavedra Chanduvi with his team visited the University as part of his assessment tour of the 10 African Centres of Excellence (ACE) centres, TribuneOnline reports.

Musujusu’s research, using macromolecular science, is aimed at developing bio-degradable polymer material which could be used as alternative for the treatment of breast cancer in the near future. She revealed that her research focuses on triple negative breast cancer which is the aggressive sub-type of breast cancer that is common with women from African ancestry.

Musujusu, who is from Sierra Leone, is conducting the research under the sponsorship of the Pan African Materials Institute (PAMI). 10 Nigerian tertiary institutions won slots to churn out special research works that could compete effectively with global standards.

The universities include Redeemers University, Mowe; Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; University of Jos, Jos; University of Benin; University of Port-Harcourt; Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife; Bayero University, Kano; Benue State University, Makurdi; and Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta; and African University of Science and Technology, Abuja.

Musujusu said,

“My research is actually centred on the development of bio-degradable polymers for treatment of breast cancer.

“I will be focusing on triple negative chest cancer which is actually the aggressive sub-type of chest cancer that is common with women from African ancestry.”

Nigeria, others may be affected as France plans ban on petrol-driven vehicles

Nigeria is one of the countries in the world that heavily relies on revenue from exportation of crude oil

With this announcement from different countries, Nigeria's crude export could be seriously affected

There is palpable fear across Nigeria and other oil-producing countries as France begins plans to ban vehicles using petrol and diesel.

The fear stems from the fact that Nigeria could be among one of the worst hit due to its heavy dependence on revenue from the exportation of crude oil.

If the ban is affected, it means oil prices could fall.

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reports that Nicolas Hulot, the country’s ecology minister, made the announcement and added that France would be banning such vehicles as part of the commitment to the Paris climate deal.

Hulot, who said his country would become carbon neutral by 2050, added: “France has decided to become carbon neutral by 2050 following the US decision.”

The minister expressed belief that French car manufacturers would meet the challenge no matter how difficult it may be.

His comments came at a time the manufacturer of Volvo said by 2019, all its cars would be at least partly electric.

Currently, Norway and Netherlands are planning to ensure only electric-run vehicles are used in the countries by 2025.

Apart from these countries, India and Germany and India are looking at 2030 to begin their own.

It  had earlier reported that the federal government may have lost over N3.8 trillion to shortfall in oil production in 2016 due to militants’ attacks and oil theft in the Niger Delta.

This was disclosed by the minister of petroleum, Dr Ibe Kachikwu in Lagos on Wednesday, May 17, at the Rainoil 20th anniversary lecture.

Photos: 16 arrested in Akwa Ibom for using President Buhari's name to defraud job seekers

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested 16 persons for allegedly using President Muhammadu Buhari's name to scam and defraud job seekers and other innocent members of the public

The suspects, 10 men and 6 women, were arrested in a storey building located along Atiku Abubakar Way, Uyo, the state capital. The Leader of the syndicate identified as one Felix Obonka from Delta State has gone is currently on the run.

Items recovered from the suspects includes the sum of One Hundred and ninety thousand eight hundred naira (N199,800.00) and two set of forms for Empowerment and Surveillance.

The group operates with the name “Niger Delta Youths, Women and Security Movement for Buhari”. Investigation revealed that, the group’s (membership and surveillance) sold forms were purchased at the rate of six thousand naira (N6,000.00) and N15, 000.00 respectively.

It was further revealed that Felix Obonka and his accomplices tricked applicants into believing that those applying for security jobs will be trained by the Nigerian Army and on completion will be posted to the Nigerian Navy, Police Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Department of State Services, for the purpose of pipeline surveillance and protection.

Others were led into believing that they would become trained artisans and proud owners of shops at the end of the programme. However, the syndicate has not trained nor given shop to any persons since 2015.

It was also revealed that the purported recruitment started in 2015 with membership drawn from all the Local Government Areas of the state.
