Messi signs New Deal with FC Barcelona

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu says he always expected Lionel Messi to sign a new contract and says that the renewal is 'great news...for the football world'.
Messi has agreed a new four-year deal at the Catalan giants, tying him to the club until 2021.
It would have been a huge surprise for the five-time Ballon d'Or winner to walk away from the side that have propelled him to the status of an all-time great.
And Bartomeu was not worried about optimistic potential suitors interrupting negotiations.
"Personally, I was always convinced that he'd renew his contract for the next four years," he said.
"This is great news not just for Barca fans, but for the football world in general.
"Leo Messi's story is one of loyalty and commitment. He's the greatest player in football history and has been at Barca since he was just 13. And the story continues.
"The fact he's staying for another four years means that things are going well, and will go well, and we are very happy for him and the Barca family.

Lacazette signs for Arsenal

The France international striker has agreed a move to the Emirates Stadium for a club-record fee, joining from Ligue 1 giants Lyon
Alexandre Lacazette has been announced as Arsenal's latest signing, with the club confirming his arrival from Lyon.
Lacazette is understood to have become the Gunners' record transfer, with the fee understood to be in the region of £46 million.
The club confirmed the news on Wednesday, indicating that that the French striker has agreed a long-term contract with the north London outfit.
"Alexandre Lacazette has agreed to join us on a long-term contract, for an undisclosed fee," read a statement posted on the official Arsenal website.
"He is expected to travel with the tour party to Sydney this weekend and is likely to make his home debut in the Emirates Cup on July 29 or July 30.
"The deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes."
The 26-year-old, who scored 37 goals in 45 appearances for Lyon last season, underwent a medical at London Colney on Tuesday, and eclipses Mesut Ozil - who cost £42.5m - as the most expensive purchase the Premier League club have made.
With hopes of signing Monaco's Kylian Mbappe - a Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain target - fading, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger managed to convince another of Ligue 1's star forwards to play at the Emirates Stadium.
Lyon club president Jean-Michel Aulas, who sanctioned the transfer on Sunday, has previously said the Premier League side must part with €65m to prise Lacazette away from Parc Olympique Lyonnais and the newly agreed deal includes bonuses worth £6m.
France international Lacazette was close to joining Atletico Madrid before the Spanish club's transfer ban was upheld and Aulas confirmed via French news outlet Le Progres that Wenger's side that the move is closer to €50m (£44m/$57m) rather than an "unrealistic" €65m (£57m/$74m).

ROONEY A RISK TOO FAR FOR BIG-SPENDING EVERTON
Tom Maston
The Toffees have impressed many with their business this summer, but a nostalgia-driven move for the Manchester United captain could backfire
COMMENT
Halfway through a summer that promised much in terms of transfer business, the usual suspects when it comes to big-spending in the Premier League are, for once, lagging behind. No team has spent as much as he £90+ million paid by Everton in the six weeks since the end of the domestic season while only newly-promoted Huddersfield Town have signed more players than the Toffees’s five. For a fanbase used to frugality for much of the 21st century, the summer of 2017 has finally brought some belief that the club is moving in the right direction.
All the latest transfer rumours
Forking out up to £60m on Jordan Pickford and Michael Keane may seem a little excessive given their comparative lack of experience of top-flight football, but both players vastly improve on those they will replace while also arriving with the promise of being able to establish themselves as the first names on the teamsheet for club and country over the next decade.
Davy Klaassen and Sandro Ramirez too have time on their side, and if they can replicate the form they have previously shown in Eredivisie and La Liga respectively, they could yet be regarded as two of the signings of the summer. Factor in the arrivals of Ashley Williams, Idrissa Gueye and Morgan Schneiderlin over the past 12 months as well as the promise of a new stadium on the horizon, and the Farhad Moshiri era could barely have got off to a better start.
So why, when everything Everton have done since the end of the 2015-16 season has been pointing towards a long-term vision of the future, are they making the move to re-sign Wayne Rooney?
On a nostalgic level, the move works. When Rooney made a substitute’s appearance during Duncan Ferguson’s testimonial during the summer of 2015, he was the name on everyone’s lips. The vision of England’s all-time top goalscorer back in a blue shirt was enough to make some supporters dream that the prodigal son could one day return to Merseyside.
Everton spend £30m on Keane
“I'd love to see him [Rooney] return [to Everton]," former striker Kevin Campbell recently told talkSPORT . "He left under a little bit of a cloud which wasn't his own making but seeing Wayne come back to his boyhood club, the club he loves, would be everything.” His thoughts are largely echoed by those who witnessed the early days of Rooney’s career almost 15 years ago.
But why Ronald Koeman - when he has done so much good work in building a team capable of gate-crashing the Premier League’s top six – would think Rooney is worth breaking the club’s wage structure for after three seasons of mediocrity is beyond most. Rooney could not get into a team that finished sixth in the table last season, so from a footballing point of view it is difficult to see how he could realistically improve the side that ended up just one place behind.
Though the 31-year-old is still capable of odd spectacular set-piece goal or eye-catching diagonal ball from deep, it is hard to argue that he would get into Everton’s first-choice XI even if Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley are both sold this summer. The Toffees’s pursuit of Swansea City playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson suggests they still want another No.10 anyway while his return of 25 league goals over the past three seasons – the same amount Lukaku managed last season alone – is proof that he can no longer function as a viable centre-forward.

Though it seems Everton will not need to pay a transfer fee for the Manchester United captain, reports that they are willing to offer him £250,000 per week in wages when they will likely need to break their transfer record to sign Sigurdsson and pursue a replacement for the seemingly Chelsea-bound Lukaku is baffling.
Everton’s assertiveness and willingness to part with their cash has been impressive thus far this summer, but with bringing Rooney let see if it can happen.

MAN UTD'S MORATA BID REJECTED AS REAL MADRID DEMAND €90M

The Red Devils have raised their initial offer for the Spain international striker but the European champions are holding out for a higher amount
EXCLUSIVE
Manchester United have failed in their latest attempt to sign Alvaro Morata with Real Madrid holding out for €90m (£79m) for the striker, Goal has learned.
Keane admits to Man Utd temptation
The Red Devils have made the Spain international their number one target as they seek to strengthen their striking department ahead of the 2017/18 season.
United have been in lengthy talks with Real over a deal, with manager Jose Mourinho keen to land Morata, 24, for the beginning of the club's pre-season tour of the United States next week.
Goal also understands that Morata, who is currently on holiday, does not want to return to Real's pre-season camp with his heart set on joining United, with all but the fee agreed between the three parties.
However, although United have increased their offer from €70m (£61.5m) to €80m (£70.2m), Real have rejected the bid as they look to make a significant profit on Morata.
Morata, who scored 20 goals in all competitions as Real lifted both La Liga and the Champions League last season, re-joined the club from Juventus last summer for €32m.
Goal revealed last month that Real have held
initial talks with Monaco about signing
wonderkid Kylian Mbappe, with the French star eyed as a possible replacement should Morata be sold.
United were initially keen to land Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann but have switched their attention to Morata, while Everton's Romelu Lukaku has also been linked.
Mourinho's men have made just one signing so far this summer, capturing Sweden defender Victor Lindelof from Benfica.

Nyanya temporal high capacity bus terminal reopened

The Nyanya temporal high capacity bus terminal was reopened on Tuesday, July 4
- The terminal was shut down in April 2014 after the multiple bomb blasts that claimed hundreds of lives and destroyed the facility
- The reopening of the terminal was granted by security agencies
The Nyanya temporal high capacity bus terminal, which was shut in April 2014 following multiple bomb blasts that led to the death of many people, was reopened on Tuesday, July 4.
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) acting secretary, transportation secretariat, Alhaji Abdulhamid Suleiman, while reopening the terminal, said since the closure of the terminal, the commuters from Nyanya axis were subjected to untold hardship as a result of absence of a clearly defined terminal.
According to him, commuters board vehicles along the road thereby exposing themselves to further threat to their lives.

He said that the vicinity around the bombed terminal where commuters converge to board vehicles was always congested thereby causing heavy vehicular gridlocks.
“The closure of the terminal also impacted negatively on the terminal operator manager, Mr Isiaka Babanagode, who was out of operation all these while and equally spent substantial amount in rebuilding this site.
“The journey to the reopening of this terminal was challenging. Various security meetings were held to determine the various implications or otherwise of its reopening,’’ he said.
The acting secretary said that various security meetings favoured the reopening and that is what resulted to the reopening.
Suleiman assured the commuters that the terminal is safe for use, adding that all necessary security measures have been put in place to ensure their safety.
“The law enforcement agents have been fully mobilised to ensure all round security of the commuters in and around the terminal.
“I want to commend the law enforcement agents who had kept vigil at the site since April 2014 when the bombs scattered this place.
“Your effort is what kept the enemy away from this vicinity. Please, your activities have to increase as this terminal resumes full operation,’’ he added.

He called on the commuters to make maximum use of the terminal, saying “do not hang along the road to board vehicles as doing so amount to a violation of our traffic rules.’’
The acting secretary noted that all high capacity buses along the route are to pick their passengers inside the terminal and finally discharge them at the terminals located within the city centre.
Suleiman said that law enforcement agents have been mobilised to arrest and prosecute any commuter who will hang along the road to board bus.
“The law enforcement agents have also been mobilised to arrest any low capacity bus or unregistered taxi drivers who may want to circumvent the efforts of the FCT Administration at sanitising the public transportation sector,’’ he said.
Also speaking, the terminal operator, Alhaji Isiaka Babanagode said before the April 2014 bomb blast his company expended N25 million on the construction of the terminal.
“Since the blast to today, we have spent over N50 million to rebuild the place by providing CCTV and other things to make it more secured.
“Apart from the Nigerian Army personnel posted here, there are other security agents including Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Vehicle Inspection Officers and private security guards.
“The terminal is well fortified with security fence wire and also by dividing the terminal between the low capacity buses and taxis terminal,’’ he added.

IPOB members protest Governor Okorocha’s opposition to Biafra

IPOB members criticise Governor Rochas Okorocha for his indifference to the Biafra agitation

- The group accuses the governor of opposing the Biafra struggle for selfish reasons

- One of the leaders of the group, King David, insists Biafra is a reality

Members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) have staged anti-Rochas Okorocha rally to protest the governor’s opposition to the Biafra struggle.
At the rally which took place on Tuesday, July 4, in major streets of Owerri, the Imo state capital, scores of pro-Biafra agitators chanted derogatory song against the of Governor Okorocha for refusing to back their cause, Guardian reports
One of the leaders of the group, King David, accused the governor of opposing the Biafra struggle for selfish reasons.
He said the agitation for the creation of Biafra Republic was very much on course.
“We are calling for the realisation of Biafra. Biafra is real. We are having our day today. No body can stop us. Every one knows that we are serious.
“Biafra is a reality. Look at the number of people who are here today (yesterday). This is to show you that we want Biafra. IPOB is calling for Biafra,” he said.
The agitators happily displayed their flags, urging the residents to identify with them.
We can also  recalls that Governor Rochas Okorocha had described most of the agitators calling for the sovereign state of Biafra as frustrated people who are just venting their frustration.
The Imo state governor also said the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, lacks the ability and influence to lead the Igbo nation to war.
Speaking to journalist in Abuja on Thursday, June 29, Okorocha urged Nigerians to treat Kanu as a young man seeking relevance.
